Weekly Download: Enthralling TV, Current Reads, and the Game Making Me Cry

As a bit of a media glutton, I am constantly looking for something to watch, something to read, and something to play. Here are the pieces of media currently occupying my attention:

Currently Watching: American Primeval
Where to Watch: Netflix
Seasons: 1, Episodes: 6
IMDB Rating: 8.2 / 10
Genre(s): Action, Drama, Thriller, Western

Truthfully, I will watch just about anything with Taylor Kitsch. Yes, including The Covenant. Set in the time of the American West, this gritty mini-series follows several individual stories from all walks of life.

Thoughts So Far: If you are queasy to any degree of violence, this is probably not the show for you. That being said, there’s a beauty to the filmography that really entrenches you in the action. I’m only one episode in so far, but I will write a more thorough review upon finishing.

Currently Reading: Emily WIlde’s Map of the Otherlands (Heather Fawcett) and Parable of the Sower (Octavia E. Butler)
Formats: Physical Book and Audiobook

After reading Emily Wilde’s Encylcopaedia of Faeries, I was all too excited to jump into the second book (Map of the Otherlands). I keep seeking out words to describe it but all I keep coming up with is adorable. It’s just a delightful read. Even with an air of mystery and intensity, it’s a book that begs not to be put down due to the sheer level of joy it brings me. Racing to finish it before the third comes out on February 11th of this year.

Parable, on the other hand, is anything but adorable. From the beginning, this book had me entrenched in a society that has fractured at the edges and rotting in between. Published originally in 1993, this book leads with wildfires in early 2025 – an eerie prediction that has me crossing my fingers the rest of the book won’t happen.

Currently Playing: Spiritfarer
Console: PC

I did not listen enough to the people who told me this game would make me cry. While I expected a few tears here or there (and further along than I am, which isn’t far) I did not anticipate literally sobbing within the first 5 hours of play. That being said: this game is beautiful. Stunning. I can easily see why it gets the praise it did. Centered on themes of life, love, and loss, it’s the perfect place to lose yourself both mentally and emotionally. I can’t wait to continue with it.
